"What did I need to get again?" the brown tabby apprentice scolded herself for forgetting the herb that her mentor had instructed her to find. "It started with a....c, I think," Daisypaw mewed to herself and then remembered. She had to find some chervil root. "For treating infected wounds," she told herself.

"Ick, Daisypaw!" Came the good-natured voice of Lunarmoon, his legs and bellyfur where caked with the slime of the marsh. "I guess our medicine cat is glad to have an apprentice now that she doesn't have to come here herself anymore!" He meowed, his long tail curling.

"I guess so," Daisypaw meowed. She lifted one paw and shook it. She wrinkled her nose slightly and sniffed around. "Chervil root, chervil root," she muttered to herself, scanning the plants around her.

"Chervil root?" Sounded Lunarmoon, looking curiously around. "Doesn't that cure bellyache?"

"No," Daisypaw meowed. She spotted the plant and dug up some of the roots. "It is used to treat infected wounds," she told Lunarmoon.

If Lunarmoon was put-off by her correction, he didn't show it. Instead, he continued to meow in a light, mild tone. "Really? I could have sworn..." his mind hummed back to when he had once had a bellyache as an apprentice, and the medicine cat there had made him eat a plant. It had seemed like she had said Chervil... "Oh! Chervil for bellyache, and Chervilroot for infections!" he perfected his thoughts with a curl of his tail. He was glad he could remember, but was glader that the apprentice knew which was what. The medicine cat was obviously doing a good job teaching Daisypaw.

Daisypaw smiled slightly. "We are running low on chervil root. Would you help me carry some back?" she asked, digging up more of the root.

Flicking his tail tip, Lunarmoon padded over to where Daisypaw was, inspected how she was digging up the root, then followed her lead. His claws were extended to scoop up the earth, but was careful not to tear up the roots as he brought the plant fully up from the ground. Placing it daintily on the pile Daisypaw was making, he then turned back to continue the work.

Daisypaw smiled and dug up a few more roots before stuffing her mouth full of all the roots she could carry. "Fank oo," she meowed through the mouthfull of roots.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Lunarmoon let loose a mrrw in his throat, and snatched up his catch of roots also. His snout wrinkled instantly at the foul taste, but tried his best to ignore it. The sooner they got back to camp to spit this out, the better.

Daisypaw was used to the awful taste and was, for the most part, immune to it. They finally reached camp. The small tabby went into the medicine cat's den and spat the roots out.

Following at her heels, Lunarmoon dropped the roots as soon as they reached the medicine cat's den. "At last!" he meowed, trying to lick the scent of the roots off his snout.

Daisypaw couldn't help but laugh at Lunarmoon's reaction to the chervil root. She started moving the roots and putting them in with the rest of the store.

Finally able to inhale something other than the foul plant, Lunarmoon hastily back out so that Daisypaw had plenty of room to sort out her store of herbs. "You've definately got your work cut out for you."

Daisypaw shrugged. "More or less," she meowed. She finished putting the herbs away and sat down. She took a deep breath and licked her whiskers.
